Worked on my landscape. It’s pretty much finished. I’ll dick with it a little Friday and Sunday and then paint the sides black or blackish brown. I’m not spending the money on a custom frame. It isn’t a standard size. It will be a nice splash of color on a wall.

After hanging my still life on a wall and looking at it off and on I decided the linen isn’t right and it isn’t quite finished. I’ll play with it a little bit.

I’m calling this “finished”. There are a few small shadows at the bases of the grapes, pear, and glass I’ll improve but those corrections will be quick. In a couple of weeks I’ll “oil it up” and post a final photo. That will tie it together a little better.

Tomorrow, Friday, and Sunday I’ll paint on the landscape and hope to finish it Sunday morning. Next week I will start another landscape and still life.

Spent maybe a half an hour giving myself a starting point on the glass and did a little on the foreground linen. Grapes need a lot of work but I’m not a long way from finishing both paintings. I ordered and received three different 18″ x 41″ sample pieces of oil primed Belgium Linen. Thirty dollars for one 18″ x 41″ piece but I’ll get many paintings out of it. It’s supposed to be the best. I’ve never painted on a high quality canvas. I’m just curious.

Just to see what it looks like in a frame

Darkened the background with a glaze of a brown and a blue. Looks like it could use another dark background glaze in a few days to darken it more and give it more depth. Not sure if I’ll repaint the glass before the next dark glaze and again after the next dark glaze or just once after the next dark glaze.

Two years ago I mixed the five oil colors I’m using with a medium and put them in little jars. The paint is now too tacky to easily use. I’ve ordered and am waiting on some mediums. I will mix the mediums into one medium and then mix with the five colors and put each in it’s own jar. I should be able to start painting again on Thursday.

Yesterday I did a little bit of work on my still life.

I’ve decided to make the background dark which may ruin the painting. I’ll try to cover it with a transparent brown and a somewhat transparent black. I don’t know how that will work out.

Worked on everything but the background for a few hours this morning. This should be finished in two to three weeks. A few weeks after that I will “oil up” this little painting which is just putting a few drops of linseed oil on a piece of cotton and rubbing the entire surface of the painting. The oil will help. A couple of months after that I will varnish the painting.
