Worked on Still Life 17. I go through my thirteen still-life paintings in order. Still Life 17 is the last one. I’ve now painted each one six times. Tomorrow I’ll start going through them for the seventh time and I think except for small details I’ll finish six or seven of them. So about a month of painting and I think they will all be finished.

Finished and signed Seascape 2. The signature might be a little dark. If I still think that after three days I’ll lighten it up a little.

Worked on Seascape 1. I’ll give it one or two more tries but I don’t think I’ll get the sky right.
I’m abandoning Landscape 3. It’s flat, with no light, and no shadows, and the sky is horrible. I’ll save the stretcher bars for another canvas.

I’m calling Seascape 2 finished except for a few sharp wave lines in the foreground and a signature. I didn’t sign it today cause a wave line might go over the signature. I’m talking 10 minutes of painting. I’m happy with it.

Worked on Still Life 13. In September I’ll be taking a three-week trip to the Southwest to fish, maybe the Conejos River and tributaries in southeast Colorado, and to take landscape photos to use as reference for some loose, impressionistic paintings. The landscape I painted a few months ago was a lot of fun and it was fast. Plus people like that type of thing much more than realistic still life paintings.
